Graduates, Parents of students and Patrons of Morrill High School,
Mr. Peacock was notified late yesterday afternoon that Mrs. Smith passed away unexpectedly. Mr. Peacock met with the staff after school and then drafted a message to share with students first thing this morning. We share this message with you so that parents can know the grief and emotions their children may be dealing with.
Morrill students:
Morrill High School and community suffered a painful loss yesterday. It is with heaviness that we inform you that Chris Smith, who served our school as a paraprofessional since 2014, passed away yesterday due to complications from an infection.
Mrs. Smith has been a meaningful part of our school for the last seven years. She stood as a strong advocate not only for her own grandchildren, but for all of her students. She had a tremendous and positive impact on everyone she came in contact with; her passion for teaching and working with our students was undeniable. The loss of Mrs. Smith will be felt deeply in our school and our community.
For those of you who feel the need to speak with someone or just need a quiet place, we have designated the Multipurpose Room as a safe space to go to help process your thoughts and feelings. We have counselors available to speak with students if needed.
Please, keep Mrs. Smith's family in your thoughts and prayers.
Parents, your children may need extra comfort and support this evening and for the near future as they process the loss of their advocate and friend. If you sense your child needs extra support, don't hesitate to reach out to our counseling staff, their favorite teacher or the High School Office 247-2149.
